'. . . Rockfort Gardens. Lying to the east of the city, about three miles away, these gardens are built upon the seashore and intended as a resort for the poorer people of Kingston, who go to picnics there on public holidays. Occasionally some highly optimistic person gave moving-picture shows at the Rockfort Gardens, and there was always a merry-go-round in operation, upon which one could ride for five or six minutes for a threepenny piece.'
